In addition to our regular classes, Golden Gate Kayaking offers a comprehensive set of trainings and assessments for the British Canoe Union Star Awards. The awards provide a great way to gauge your progress in kayaking skills, from basic boat handling in the 1- and 2-star awards to leading advanced trips in unfamiliar locations in the 5-star award.

Progress in the BCU Star Awards system starts with taking a training class for a given award. The training introduces you to the skills needed for the award, shows you how to practice to prepare for the assessment, and provides individual feedback on which skills need the most practice. Once you feel you’re ready, you can sign up for an assessment. Regardless of whether you pass, you’ll again receive feedback on your specific strengths and weaknesses.
